4 Holiday Health Busters
I feel many of us throw in the towel during the holiday season. We let our priorities sway for unnecessary reasons.
Here are 4 great tips that will help kick you into gear and not make “loosing weight” your New Year’s Resolution once again for 2014!
4 Fast Fixes For Holiday Health Busters!
How to eat, drink, and be merry–without any regrets–
Bad Holiday Habit: Skipping the Gym
Stay-Well Solution: You don’t have to be a compulsive gym-goer to burn calories. If you can’t maintain your usual regimen now, walk a little more–take an extra lap around the mall during your holiday shopping. Or do ten minutes of strength-training at home (find a great workout routine here).
Bad Holiday Habit: Stressing Out
Stay-Well Solution: Trim your to-do list; many tasks are small enough to drop or delegate. If the apple pie is from the bakery instead of homemade, no one will care. Shifting your focus away from yourself helps neutralize stress too. Enlist the kids to round up canned goods to bring to a food pantry. It sets a great example for your family and makes you feel good.
Bad Holiday Habit: Overeating
Stay-Well Solution: We switched to making meals and avoiding grains, wheat, dairy, and legumes and it was so delicious and we were not even tempted, because it was not readily available to us! Also put out healthy appetizers such as veggies, shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms etc… This way you will not want to gorge on dinner and not feel like Santa when you are done with your meal.
Bad Holiday Habit: Encouraging Colds
Stay-Well Solution: It’s true traveling can wear down your immune system, so when I fly, I use a trick I learned from years of working in the ER: Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth during cold and flu season–they’re primary entry points for viruses. If I shake hands with people, I don’t rub my eyes until I’ve washed up. I think it’s one of the reasons I rarely get sick. I haven’t had the flu since I was a kid.
So now that you have these fun facts, challenge yourself to make healthier lifestyle choices in this holiday season! What are you going to differently this year?
