First of all, I have to address this birthday madness that has been started by one of my friends. Apparently she thinks I need a gift every day leading up to my 40th birthday. Don’t get me wrong, this is awesome and amazing (just like my friend, the planner) but I feel very guilty having people bring me gifts. Actually uncomfortable may be more of the word. But since this is happening, I figure I just as well give you an idea of what I would like. I tried to create a Target registry with the items shown below but was unable to find candy in the registry options 🙂

Good Friends, Good Weather, Good Food…. And An Allergic Reaction???

I’m back and ready to continue my journey with the Whole Life Challenge. I took a little break from working out and eating clean while I was in the Dominican but, let me tell you, it was worth it! And it reminded me of why I like to workout and eat clean…. because I feel a lot better when I do.

I had an interesting experience while on vacation. We ate a Hibachi restaurant during our stay. I always find the Hibachi restaurants to be a lot of fun while on a tropical vacation but I will never look at it the same. Sushi was served for the appetizer. I’ve had sushi before but it’s not something I regularly eat. After I took a bite of one of the items, I noticed my lip started to burn. I didn’t pay much attention as I figured the sushi I had eaten was spicy and my lip was perhaps sunburned. That evening my lip continued to burn and I was SOOOO tired. Keep in mind we had been in the sun all day and I probably drank a little more alcohol than I normally do in one day. So I slapped on lots of Chapstick before I went to bed (really early) that night and didn’t think much of it.

In the morning, I woke up with a GIANT bottom lip and a very upset stomach. Fortunately, two of my friends on the trip are in the medical profession and diagnosed me with an allergic reaction to something I ate the night before. Shrimp was a likely suspect however I had shrimp earlier in the vacation with no issues at all. So it was probably the sushi but which one? That is still unknown. If only I had paid more attention to which piece of sushi made my lip burn! The swelling of my lip quickly went down but unfortunately the stomach issues continued for two days.

I’ve figured out that I have a mild allergy to peanuts (obviously doesn’t stop me from consuming peanut butter), strawberries and, now, a type of seafood. I know it’s not uncommon for allergies to develop later in life but I’m not thrilled. I love seafood! Ugh! So do I take the initiative to get an allergy test and discover the culprit or do I just eliminate sushi from my diet? I haven’t decided. Honestly, I don’t have much of an urge to eat anything like that for a while so avoiding it won’t be an issue!  This has definitely a learning experience for me. I have a lot more respect for people dealing with serious food allergies as mine was only a minor inconvenience and not life-threatening.

I missed my CPMer’s this last week. Can’t wait to see you at the gym!!
