Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #9 – Becky, Babs, Buck Norris

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #9 – Becky, Babs, Buck Norris

Episode 9

Have you ever noticed the fit blonde bombshell that flies through workouts like they are no big deal? That’s Becky Brost. Also knows as Babs (Bad Ass Becky) and Buck Norris (Becky/Chuck Norris). She’s not only an awesome member but she’s also one of my best friends. Becky introduced me to CPM over 4 years ago and I knew right away that if Becky liked it, I was going to love it! Becky is an original…. she started this stuff back in 2009 when Chris and Annie opened Crossfit Sioux Falls. She’s probably recorded more […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #8 – The Blondes

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #8 – The Blondes

Episode 8

I’ve been trying to schedule a time to interview Brooke and Alicia for a while now. You don’t always see them together at CPM but often times you do. Brooke and Alicia are the blonde bombshells that walk into the gym all chill but turn into tornados once the workout starts. They both have their own individual strengths which have developed since they’ve been at CPM. Brooke is a rockstar coach on Saturday mornings and Alicia is now working out with her husband, Reed, and trust me, they are a rockstar couple! I had a […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat – Special Friday Night Lights Edition

Gym Rat Chit Chat – Special Friday Night Lights Edition

Friday Night Lights

I’m a pusher. If you’ve had me as a coach, you know I’m the coach that will tell you to try that muscle-up, handstand push-up, squat snatch, pistol… and so on. I’ve tried it all myself. Sometimes I fail, sometimes I surprisingly succeed. But either way, I never would have known the outcome had I not at least tried to do the movement. Even better than succeeding myself is watching my clients succeed. At first it was challenging to watch as my members, those that I coach and workout with, began to beat me […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #7 – Russel the Muscle

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #7 – Russel the Muscle

Episode 7

I interviewed Russ several weeks ago and hesitated to post the video because it’s a little hard to hear the mild-mannered Russ Pixler but I decided to go with it. I like to surprise members with the questions I am asking (makes it more fun that way) so interviewing Russ a second time might not be as good as the first. Russ is a morning regular now (used to be a nooner) and you will most likely see him working his abs before and after class. Russ is strong as an ox and fast too… […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #6 – The Consistent Couple…Joe and Nancy Olsen

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #6 – The Consistent Couple…Joe and Nancy Olsen

Episode 6

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Joe and Nancy Olsen this week. If you workout at 5 am, you know Joe and Nancy. They attend class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They sneak in a yoga class every Thursday night in addition to three workouts each week. Joe and Nancy are kind, considerate and all-around awesome members; always walking into the gym with a positive attitude and ready to work hard. I only coach the 5 am class once a week now but I honestly say they are a part of the reason […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #5 – The Legend… Chad Belitz

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode #5 – The Legend… Chad Belitz

Episode 5

This week, I interviewed Chad Belitz. Chad’s a lot of fun to have in class. He might not realize how much we enjoy having him around but we do. Somehow even when Chad says he’s tired, he doesn’t appear to be tired ?  I don’t know what his secret is. He doesn’t drink caffeine (weird) so whatever keeps him peppy, I want some of it! Chad is tough as nails too. Watch him do a max bar hang sometime…. he’s got a mental toughness that most of us don’t have. Chad, thanks for being so […] Read more

Goodbye 2017… I Need a New Start!

Goodbye 2017… I Need a New Start!

Happy New Year!

I wanted to take a week break from Gym Rat Chit Chat to share with you my thoughts and goals for the new year.

2017 was a challenging year for many reasons. From my dad’s second stroke to my friend losing her son, new struggles and challenges were popping up every single day and the challenges were much greater than anything I have ever faced. I found myself lying awake at night with anxiety over what seemed to be my life spinning out of control. On occasion, I would throw a mild temper […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat – Todd Boote, Booty, Boo-tay

Gym Rat Chit Chat – Todd Boote, Booty, Boo-tay

Episode 4

This week, I interviewed Todd Boote. Todd is possibly one of the nicest guys at CPM. Settle down everyone… I think you are all nice. But if you’ve been fortunate enough to talk to Todd, you understand why I say that. He’s soft spoken, kind and genuine. And lucky for us, he’s starting to coach!

In this episode, I asked Todd…

How do you actually pronounce your last name?
Have you considered permanently changing the pronunciation (and spelling) of your last name to Booty?
Why are you so good at muscle-ups?
What is your favorite workout?
Who are your […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode 3 – Courtney Hughes

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode 3 – Courtney Hughes

Episode 3

Courtney Hughes doesn’t need much of an introduction. If you go to CPM, you know who she is. Courtney is a force to be reckoned with in the workouts and she’s a blast to hang around. Her positive attitude makes you want to workout with her, be friends with her and be like her ?   We are so fortunate to have Courtney coaching at CPM. Her coaching style and her movement skills along with many other things make her a fabulous coach. Thank you Courtney for being a party of my life! ?

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode 2 – Lisa Zahn

Gym Rat Chit Chat Episode 2 – Lisa Zahn

Episode 2

In my second episode of Gym Rat Chit Chat, I am talking to Lisa Zahn. Lisa has been a member of CPMFITness for a while now and has recently transitioned into a coaching position with us. I am honored to consider her a great friend. Fun fact, Lisa is the most competitive, non-competitive person I know ?   If you are looking for good movement progressions, Lisa is your girl. She’s like a walking gym encyclopedia and we are very fortunate to have her as a member and coach!  Thank you Lisa for sharing your time […] Read more

Gym Rat Chit Chat – Marin Bortnem (The Mayor of CPM)

Gym Rat Chit Chat – Marin Bortnem (The Mayor of CPM)

Episode 1

Welcome to my first episode of Gym Rat Chit Chat! This week I had the opportunity to sit down with Marin Bortnem. Marin has been at CPM for 4 years… that’s right 4 years! Amazing. She is by far one of the funniest people at the gym and the most fun to workout with.

In this episode, I asked Marin

what keeps her coming to the gym
questions about her super fun home life where she is greatly outnumbered by the male species
what makes her mad at the gym
what gets her excited at CPM
and last but […] Read more

Introducing…..

Introducing…..

Gym Rat Chit Chat!

A few weeks ago I revealed to you that November would be my last month of blogging at CPM for a while. Well, plans have changed and guess what…. I’m still blogging! So I decided to switch things up a bit. Starting next week, my blog will be called Gym Rat Chit Chat. I will be highlighting a current CPM member or coach. The interviews have already begun and I’m super excited. Don’t be surprised if I hit you up to sit down with me. It only takes 10 minutes. OR if you […] Read more

The Day After….

The Day After….

The Damage Has Been Done  ?

What can I say? Thanksgiving was amazing. I ate lots of yummy food, I sat around a lot and I tried to avoid any unnecessary activity. It was FANTASTIC! Working out this morning was good. Needed that. But burning 500 calories, really doesn’t make up for eating 5000. Or does it?? ?

So what do I do now? Time to kick things into gear by getting back to the gym tomorrow! I know, I know….it’s Black Friday. If you are out shopping at insane hours of the day, I will […] Read more

Throwback Thursday – Gym Hair!

Throwback Thursday – Gym Hair!

Out of Control Gym Hair!

I wanted to repost a fun blog this week. We see some pretty crazy hairstyles at CPM. Most of the craziness comes from a big double under day or perhaps box jumps. At least that’s when my hair gets the craziest. I’ve even see a couple guys (ok, 2 guys) sport headbands this summer. Is this a new trend? It is. Should you be doing it? Depends. Will I recommend it to my husband? Probably not.

Headbands

Headbands are awesome at the gym. They keep the sweat out of your eyes, hold […] Read more

My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

Time to Reminisce

My blogging at CPM will be coming to an end soon. This is my last month. For these final weeks, I plan to take a look back at my favorite moments and blogs and share them with you. This week I am listing some of my top favorite moments at CPM. Keep in mind it’s hard for me to remember them so these are just a few of the many many great memories!

Bort wearing his son’s “Where the Beef” shirt. When the whole family has the same shirt, you gotta check the tags! Actually don’t because it makes […] Read more

Fit Gym Couples – Found at CPM!

Fit Gym Couples – Found at CPM!

Partners for Life and Workout Partners for Life!

Last week Alicia and her husband, Reed, were coming to a noon class at the mall. I was talking about what a fit couple they are and, with my new love of Instagram polls, I wanted to put a poll out there. Are they the fittest couple at CPM? Yes or No. Of course, I quickly realize that it isn’t very  nice to ask a question like that on a poll so I didn’t do it. But they remind me of Steve and I in our 20’s. Brooke commented that she thought they were […] Read more

Being Vulnerable

Being Vulnerable

Putting Yourself Out There

I’m afraid of failure. Most of us are, right? We don’t like to take on a task, project, business venture or competition unless we know we can succeed. But some people are better at taking risks than others. Why is that?

Let’s look at working out. It’s just a workout but there are people in every gym (ours included) that HATE to lose. They may even stretch their reps or cut reps just to win. That must be a challenging life to live. I heard from a few members that they didn’t participate in a competition or event […] Read more

Switch It Up A Little!

Switch It Up A Little!

I’m Struggling…

to workout. It doesn’t happen to me often but it happens. These past couple months it’s been tough to squeeze everything in. Family, work, lifting, workouts, sleep. You get my point. I find myself feeling less and less motivated to workout. I can honestly say that has happened very few times since I was 20 years old. Even after having my babies, I couldn’t wait to head out the door for a run. Nothing was going to stop me!

So why now? I’m not sure. But I do know it means I have to switch things up. I really like […] Read more

Wired to Eat Challenge: One Week Down!

Wired to Eat Challenge: One Week Down!

What’s the Real Challenge?

I received several questions about the Wired to Eat Challenge last week. Mostly regarding the nutrition requirements. Why only 15 meals? What makes it a compliant meal? Is it enough to only eat 15 clean meals each week? All great questions but I’m not going to answer them in this blog 😉 What I am going to do is share with you how I am challenging myself with the Wired to Eat Challenge.

First of all, 15 compliant meals isn’t really a challenge. I do that every week already. The 75 minute window does make my meal interesting […] Read more

More Than Just Members

More Than Just Members

When Members Have to Leave

It makes me really sad (I mean REALLY sad) when we lose a member at CPM. I have gotten very close to many of our members over the past 4 years. I look forward to having them in class, chatting with them, hanging out with them and working out with them. So when I hear that someone is leaving CPM to either move away or just take a break, I take it to heart. It is hard not to.

I had Jack in class for the last time…. ? ? ?  I think back to coaching my 6:30 […] Read more
