Wired to Eat Challenge: One Week Down!

Wired to Eat Challenge: One Week Down!

What’s the Real Challenge?

I received several questions about the Wired to Eat Challenge last week. Mostly regarding the nutrition requirements. Why only 15 meals? What makes it a compliant meal? Is it enough to only eat 15 clean meals each week? All great questions but I’m not going to answer them in this blog 😉 What I am going to do is share with you how I am challenging myself with the Wired to Eat Challenge.

First of all, 15 compliant meals isn’t really a challenge. I do that every week already. The 75 minute window does make my meal interesting […] Read more

When Members Have to Leave

It makes me really sad (I mean REALLY sad) when we lose a member at CPM. I have gotten very close to many of our members over the past 4 years. I look forward to having them in class, chatting with them, hanging out with them and working out with them. So when I hear that someone is leaving CPM to either move away or just take a break, I take it to heart. It is hard not to.

I had Jack in class for the last time…. ? ? ?  I think back to coaching my 6:30 […] Read more

It’s About to Go Down; #challengeCallOut

Our “Wired to Eat” Challenge starts this Friday!

This is unlike any challenge we have done in the history of CPMFITness (est 2013).

At the (successful) completion of this challenge you achieve the following…
*Turn off Cravings
*Rewire your appetite for Weight Loss
*Determine the Foods that work for you EXACTLY #personalizedNutrition

We are diving deeper into the body to how we can learn how our hormones and brain are genetically ‘wired’ to move less and eat more… huh??

Yep, the author wanted to name this book… “It’s not your fault”.

Our bodies were genetically designed to live in a different world then we walk today. By understanding where we came […] Read more

Get Rid of the Guilt

It’s 11:45 am on Sunday. My family just got home from church 45 minutes ago. I hate to admit this but I haven’t been done a very good job of getting my family to church lately. It seems as though we have a million things on our to-do list and waking up Sunday morning to write my blog and catch up with gym work seems easier than getting my family up early and ready for church. But something happened last week that made me decide it’s time to get back on track (thank you Missy for […] Read more

Dealing with Adversity

Dealing with Adversity

Sometimes Life Doesn’t Make Sense

It’s been a rough year for many of my friends and family. Some unimaginable things have happened to the best people. Why does it always seem as though the best people have to deal with the worst things? Life is hard. Being an adult is hard. We are expected to work 40 hours a week (at least), raise kids, be a good spouse, exercise, cook healthy meals, have a clean house, attend every sporting/musical event, get kids to practice, take care of our aging parents and manage to keep our shampoo/conditioner/laundry detergent/sock/underwear/cereal (you get the point) supply […] Read more

Say Goodbye to Summer and Hello to CPM!

Say Goodbye to Summer and Hello to CPM!

That’s Right, It’s Time to Get To The Gym!

I have talked to countless people over the past couple weeks that said they have fallen off the wagon this summer. Their eating is off, they aren’t working out, blah blah blah. I’m included in the “eating is off” category. It’s hard for one’s workouts to suffer when they work at a gym so I’m good there ?

All of the kids are back in school now so we no longer have an excuse to slack off, right? So how do you get back into the swing of things when you’ve taken too […] Read more

Here I Go Again…

We All Overdo It From Time to Time

A lot of us at CPM truly enjoy exercise. It’s our escape. You walk in the door carrying all of the stress from your day, week, month on your shoulders and magically you forget all of that during your workout. It’s an awesome thing. So it can be easy to get caught up in the addiction of exercise. Some of you will think this is crazy but a lot of you will understand where I am coming from.

I started a new lifting program last week. I love it. I planned to lift 4 […] Read more

The Power of a Partner

The Power of a Partner

I’ve Said It Before…

And I’ll say it again. Workouts are much more fun with a partner. Whether it’s your best friend, someone you met at the gym, spouse, son, daughter, parent… we are always motivated to work harder and #get2thegym if we are planning to workout with a partner.

I partnered with Brooke and Missy last Saturday morning for a killer workout. I worked 10 times harder than I would have on my own. #1, I wasn’t planing to workout. #2, they squat so fast that I felt like I had to go harder and faster to keep up. #3, it’s […] Read more

Kids Back in School = Parents Back in Shape

Kids Back in School = Parents Back in Shape

It’s True.

It’s really hard to describe the affect summer can have on parents. I’m not making excuses for my lack of meal prepping, lack of sleep, lack of motivation to do things other than vacationing, boating and enjoying summer BUT summer is killer on the waistline. How can I be in the worst shape of the year during the months that I’m spending my weekends in a bikini??? ?

So school starts Monday, August 21st and I think I’m ready. I always get a little anxiety this time of year. Did we spend enough time with the kids this summer? Should we […] Read more

Our Crossfit Games Experience…

was pretty darn awesome. It exceeded my expectations. Who knew spectating could be so exhausting?? If we weren’t standing on concrete, we were sitting or laying on concrete. Or we were eating?  But for the record, that was probably some of the cleanest eating I’ve done on vacation…. thanks to Court and Lisa!

My big takeaways:

I will be attending the games next year. For sure.
Watching the athletes in person really gives you a new perspective on it. The number of workouts and the intensity of the workouts in one weekend is unreal. They are amazing.
I will probably get […] Read more

Headed to the Games!

Headed to the Games!

I’m Pretty Excited…

to be headed to the Crossfit Games in Madison, Wisconsin this weekend. If you’ve never watched the games, you should really try to catch some of the action this year. All of the movements we do at CPM are taken to the extreme in their workouts. The Crossfit Games have turned into a serious competition full of amazing athletes, sponsorships, big cash prizes and intense workouts. The events start Thursday, August 3rd and end Sunday, August 6th. We are leaving Thursday afternoon to ensure that we will be able to watch the Friday morning action.

Let The Gym Be Your Happy Place

Last week I filled you in on our participation in the Granite Games online team qualifier. I was feeling pretty good after our first round of workouts. I didn’t come up with great scores but they were scores I could live with. We were really excited to see the next 3 workouts. The second we saw them, messages started flying between the 6 of us. At one point, Lisa had to give us a pep talk because we were so overwhelmed by the difficulty of these workouts. But here’s the deal, we are competing […] Read more

Keeping Up With The Competition

Keeping Up With The Competition

Is the Competition Getting Tougher or Am I Just Getting Older?

I love competition. I used to run several races each year and I always ran them to get a PR. One summer, we participated in a Tough Mudder and I was blown away when I found out we weren’t being timed. WHAT?! Why am I doing this if I don’t know how I stack up against the competition?? Needless to say, I’ve calmed down a lot since then. I still love competition but I try to take a more practical approach to competing as I know this 40 year old […] Read more

So This Happened The Other Morning…

285 Squat Clean

I had the opportunity to take some videos during the power clean and squat clean build up last Friday morning. It was a busy class and despite the fact that it was 5:45 am, the guys were lifting heavy. Cory had just hit a very solid 265 squat clean and decided to give 275 a try. As you can see in the video, he didn’t land a solid squat. I’ve been there, done that too many times to count. When Cory fails to stand up, Brent’s quick thinking saves him from a potential […] Read more

The Mod Squad – Child’s Pose

The Mod Squad – Child’s Pose

Take a break and enjoy child’s pose!

Child’s pose is a great pose to re-set and get back to your yoga practice.

In child’s pose…

-Use the opportunity to re-focus your breath and allow yourself a break and to find your intention.

-Use the pose to move your spine, get it moving in every direction.

-Walk your hands to side of your mat and feel that wonderful stretch down your side.

Really allow the pose to bring you back to your practice and allow you to get the most from showing up on your mat.

Friend or Foe

Misery Loves Company

Do you have friends or family members with bad habits? We all do. Drinking, unhealthy eating, gambling, smoking, not sleeping. I have some bad habits myself such as overindulging in sweets from time to time. It happens. I move on.

So when you choose to partake in one of your bad habits, do you try to rope others into doing it with you? I’m eating cake so you should eat cake too. Or I’m having a smoke so you should too. Why do we feel the need to have people that we love do something bad with us? If […] Read more

Learning How to Pace (and Happy Anniversary to my Husband)

First I have to give a quick shoutout to my amazing husband Steve. It is our 15 year anniversary today. He’s put up with my obsessive personality for a long time and seems to be willing to continue to put up with me for a while longer 🙂 Steve, thank you for being an amazing husband and father. I don’t know what I’d do without you ❤
