What Makes You Happy?

What Makes You Happy?

Being Happy Isn’t That Hard!

I listened to a great podcast last week about chasing happiness (thanks Lisa for getting me on Ben Bergeron’s podcast). If you don’t have friends that send you podcasts, find some friends that do! But never forget about those old friends ūüôā

Anyway, Ben is Katrin Davidsdottir’s coach. He talked about how after winning the Crossfit Games, Katrin¬†walked off the podium, looked him in the eye and said “I’m not as happy as I thought I would be.” She was already thinking about winning the games next year. A perfect example of how once we achieve something, […] Read more

Let The Double Banging Begin!

How To Squeeze In Those Extra Workouts

First, let me get you up to speed on my performance diet. Things are going well.

I’ve definitely leaned out through my mid-section despite some Easter cheats over the weekend.
It was easier to get my pants up over my hips too so that’s good news.
Planning my meals was smooth the second week. It’s almost getting to be a habit.
I removed the rice from my diet and replaced with sweet potatoes. My joints feel better after the switch.
Pull-ups and muscle-ups felt better this week. Perhaps some weight loss contributed to that?

I’m looking at this as a […] Read more

The New Diet…. Week 2

The New Diet…. Week 2

No Cheats… Not Yet Anyway!

I learned a lot during my first week on my new nutrition plan. Some good, some bad, some just extremely challenging. I’ll break it down for you:

Counting macros (Challenging) – Trying to calculate my protein, carbs and fat had my head spinning! Fortunately, prepping during week 2 has been WAY easier. I just needed to be patient and figure it out.
Egg whites (Bad) – I’m used to eating farm fresh eggs from our neighbors. So buying eggs whites made my heart break and they don’t taste nearly as good. I’ve figured out a way to get […] Read more

My Next Experiment

My Next Experiment

I Like To Jump Right In

Have you ever had the feeling you were meant to try something? Like it almost falls right into your lap? Last Thursday I was talking to Courtney about a new eating plan she is doing. After 2 weeks, she’s had amazing results so, of course, I’m intrigued. I’m about due for another eating challenge or just a challenge in general so I decided to look into it. The next morning, I wake up bright and early to coach the 5 am class. When I check my phone, I have an email from another member, April, […] Read more

Let the Post-FNL Depression Begin

Let the Post-FNL Depression Begin

The Last one – 17.5

I still can’t believe Friday Night Lights is over. The past 5 weeks have flown by. We’ve learned a lot from these workouts… how to better organize, how to scale our members, how to pump up the crowd. It’s been great and we are sure to do it again.

The last workout was thrusters and doubles. A lot of us predicted it but we were wondering if it would be dumbbell thrusters instead of barbell. Turned out to be barbell and for that I am thankful. It was a tough workout for everyone. Whether you could roll […] Read more

Friday Night Lights – One Workout To Go!

Friday Night Lights – One Workout To Go!

17.4 – What a Workout!

Deadlifts, Wallballs, Rowing and Handstand Push-Ups….my favorite workout so far! We had another amazing night at CPM and I can’t believe FNL is coming to an end. I’m very very sad and I’m not the only one. I’ve gotten several messages from members that feel the same way. If you know me well, you know that there isn’t much that will get me out of the house on a Friday night. I get up early in the morning and I prefer to go to bed much earlier than most of you. But I have looked forward […] Read more

17.3 Squat Snatch, Snatch Squat, Sasquatch… What?

17.3 Squat Snatch, Snatch Squat, Sasquatch… What?

17.3 РOn the Rig Again

Week 3 of the open workouts brought something I wasn’t expecting… chest to bar pull-ups. Week 1 had T2B, Week 2 had Muscle-Ups so I thought they would skip the rig for Week 3. Guess I was wrong on that one. The squat snatch wasn’t a surprise though. We knew a heavy lift was headed our way.

We don’t squat snatch very often so I was a little nervous about the members doing this workout. But I was pleasantly surprised to watch one member after another complete some really solid squat snatches. I was also happy with […] Read more

2 Is Better Than 1… Friday Night Lights

17.2 – A Whole New Ballgame

It was a packed house for our second week of Friday Night Lights. 28 participants and almost as many spectators. You really had to be there to know how much fun it was! So if you missed out, I have good news for you…. we have 3 more weeks. Plenty of time for you to join us ūüôā We encourage you to participate or to watch!

My Thoughts…

17.2 was a totally different beast than 17.1. I was frustrated with this workout at first because it seriously limits the number of people that can do it RX’d. […] Read more

My Take On Friday Night Lights Week 1

My Take On Friday Night Lights Week 1

17.1 – Hard But Not THAT Bad

Friday Night Lights was a huge success last week. We had 22 members complete the workout and several members show up to watch and cheer them on. I would have to say it is hands-down my favorite CPM experience thus far. I’m hooked… the open is for me. You can still get in on the fun. Show up this Friday to participate in the workout or cheer us on!

My Thoughts…

The participants were super motivated and the spectators were extremely encouraging! I’ve never been so driven to do well in a workout!
17.1 was harder for […] Read more

Are You A Cherry Picker?

I bet you’ve done it at least once… you’ve skipped the gym because you didn’t like the workout. Am I right? We have members who don’t like to run, don’t like to lift, don’t like to workout (ha!) and, on occasion, it leads to them skipping a workout. Personally, I don’t cherry pick […] Read more

Why “Friday Night Lights”??

Why “Friday Night Lights”??

With our Friday Night Lights starting in a few days¬†something very good or something very¬†bad can happen to you…

You can become motivated beyond what you ever thought possible.

–OR–

You can fall into the Bermuda triangle of COMPARING yourself to others, their scores, begin to question your training and success you have had thus far. Falling victim to self sabotaging yourself.

Friday Night Lights is a way to provide context to your training and gives you purpose behind everything you have been working for in the gym day in and day out.

GOOD COMPETITION

Competition can bring out the best in you. I fully believe that you can […] Read more

Your Other Valentine…. The Gym Buddy

Your Other Valentine…. The Gym Buddy

Your Gym Buddy

Valentine’s Day is over but I wanted to reflect on another reason we love to go to the gym…. our gym buddies. Friends are often the reason you start a gym and continue to go to the gym day after day. I’ve had several gym BFF’s¬†throughout my life. Here’s a few:

Angie – My long-time friend and running partner. I can’t begin to imagine the number of miles we have logged together. It is¬†A LOT! I would NEVER run a 50 mile race without a partner and I think I would do it again if Angie ran it with […] Read more

This Birthday Madness & I Have Another Food Allergy

This Birthday Madness & I Have Another Food Allergy

My Birthday

First of all, I have to address this birthday madness that has been started by one of my friends. Apparently she thinks I need a gift every day leading up to my 40th birthday. Don’t get me wrong, this is awesome and amazing (just like my friend, the planner) but I feel very guilty having people bring me gifts. Actually uncomfortable may be more of the word. But since this is happening, I figure I just as well give you an idea of what I would like. I tried to create a Target registry with the items shown below […] Read more

Friday Night Lights…. Yes, You Should!

Friday Night Lights – Why You Should Do It!

Have you¬†heard about the upcoming Friday Night Lights workouts at CPM? What are they and why are we doing them? Here’s what you need to know.

There’s a good chance you’ve caught a few minutes of the Crossfit Games at some point in your life. Some of you have religiously watched it. I’m guilty of that ūüôā The games start with the open. The open gives us Average Joe’s the opportunity to participate in the initial open workouts and to try to make it to the games. Is it possible to make it […] Read more

Hello CPM I am Here to Introduce Myself …

Hello CPM I am Here to Introduce Myself …

The Mod Squad

Three years ago this January started like any other year, I again was trying to convince myself to try to eat better and maybe find a gym and to work out again, my usual resolutions. Finally my sister convinced me to come to a yoga class with her (I did not know at the time that it would be Annie’s FHY class) and afterwards I was intrigued. Everything about this gym was not what I expected. So I decided to give CPMFITness a try.

To say a lot has changed for me over these last 3 years would be […] Read more

The New Year Means New Members!

How To Transition into the CPM Community

The start of the new year means you will see some new faces at CPM. There are things you can do to make their transition into CPM gym life a good one. Or maybe you are the new member…. I’ve got tips for you too ūüôā

Current Members:

Introduce yourself – It’s a small gesture but it can make someone feel very welcome in class.
Chat with them a little – Try to get to know the new member. It can be tough to be standing in a class full of people especially when everyone is engaged […] Read more
