Is Real Fitness like Raising Real Kids?

Is Real Fitness like Raising Real Kids?

This new parent world is pretty incredible. (I know you parents told me so) The whole process has been a game-changer and fundamental shift in my identity

When change in life comes your way there are opportunities available to take advantage of. Being in the hospital and watching how doctors 👨‍⚕️and nurses 👩🏼‍⚕️have helped heal up our little guys can’t help but make me translate the struggles and successes we’ve faced with our stay at the NICU over to the FITness and gym life. I’ve come up with the question, “Is building True FITness like raising Real Kids?”

Getting FIT is a […] Read more

Reverse Habits…

Reverse Habits…

I’ve heard we overestimate what we can do in the short run and underestimate what we can do in the long run. Boy can I attest to that personally as I am a recovering procrastination-aholic. Sometimes I’m a head case. My mind moves really fast. I’m pumped about almost everything and it’s a challenge for me to tame my brain 🧠.As you will see my 3 habits I’ve been working to change are mostly about what goes on between my ears👂 .

TnT’s about Dining Out…

TnT’s about Dining Out…

Lets talk at the human level about Food….

1. Food is fuel. Calories are units of energy. We fuel our bodies like a car with gas. When the low fuel light goes on we simply find the nearest (or cheapest) gas station and fill up our tanks. It really could be as simple as that except…

2. Food is also designed for pleasure. We have 3 biological basic tastes; (sweet, salty and fatty) more on this in a past post GOT CRAVINGS. And food companies are smart and out for our money so they do a really good job overstimulating our foods […] Read more

Change Your Words (5/5) = “Discipline”

Change Your Words (5/5) = “Discipline”

For me personally, I am a huge believer in discipline growing up and now in my adult life. But after reading this post it was the actual love for ‘IT’ that was driving me, not discipline. I’m excited to watch what happens now that I will look at love vs. discipline in the future.

The Myth Behind… Discipline. Why there is something MORE powerful than it?

The following article was written by world renowned health expert and strength coach Charles Poliquin. I came across this waay back in Oct 09 and it really gave me food for thought. I’d like to pass […] Read more

Change Your Words (4/5) = “I Need Easy”

Change Your Words (4/5) = “I Need Easy”

I get these kinds of text messages all the time,

“I need to figure out what to cook… I need ‘easy’ recipes.“

Right after I read that kind of text, the first thing that pops in my head is, “Simple is the New ‘Easy‘”

My Perspective…

The opposite of Easy is HARD! When something is HARD it takes great effort. Why? Because you may lack a few things… Skills, Confidence, Clarity to name a few.

When things become ‘Easy’ it’s because things became simple. When things are simple it’s because you have the necessary Skills, Confidence, Clarity to make it simple.

Think about something simple in your life… Driving […] Read more

Change Your Words (3/5) = “I Don’t Have Time”

Change Your Words (3/5) = “I Don’t Have Time”

Each week, we are all entrusted with an irreplaceable fund of hours…168, to be exact.

How you spend these hours is entirely up to you.

You can putter around, watching hours and hours of Law & Order reruns. Or you can set about to change your community, or maybe even the entire world.

It just depends on how you choose to spend your fund of hours.

But to say that you don’t have time? Well, that’s garbage. You do have time—you have 168 hours.

A few years ago, I read an article in the Wall Street Journal that suggested we replace the phrase, “I […] Read more

Change Your Words (2/5) = Cheat Meals

Change Your Words (2/5) = Cheat Meals

Last Week was Strict… Today’s post of “Change YOUR Words” is ‘Cheat Meals’.

To reiterate from last week, the way we think and speak are vital to how we feel and behave. Words are very very powerful. They can be used to your advantage or they can hold you back and stress you out!

We all have emotional attachments to words. Some people view a certain word different than others. Sometimes when I am in a conversion with someone and I hear them say a certain word, I ask them to define what they mean by it. Not because I don’t […] Read more

Carbs Can Work For You…

Carbs Can Work For You…

Overconsume carbohydrates, and you could incur unwanted weight gain, blood sugar issues, and a long list of chronic diseases.

Eat too little, and you could experience hormonal imbalance, weight loss resistance, and major drops in athletic performance.

To add to this conundrum, what is one person’s high carb can be another’s too low carb – making mainstream “general” intake recommendations entirely inadequate.

While both sides of the coin project carbohydrates in an unpleasant light, rest assured – your right carb does exist, and eating the appropriate amount of this macronutrient can help you achieve health, longevity, and natural leanness.

The big (and quite controversial) question now becomes… What is your right […] Read more

This coming Friday is the beginning of our 2nd Annual Friday Night Lights (#FNL).

#realTalkTime

My goal is to create an environment that supports you challenging yourself to raise your mental, emotional and physical levels to a great level.  This is a POWERFUL opportunity to put yourself “out there” in an uncomfortable atmosphere to foster change and growth (in a friendly, supportive, motivating environment of course;-)

Now with great power comes great responsibility. With that lets dive into….

CPM Lingo; Part 2 (Rosetta Stone)

CPM Lingo; Part 2 (Rosetta Stone)

Building off last week’s post of CPM Lingo (Terms and Phrases) I’d like to introduce Part 2 of our CPM Lingo involving what you will see on the board everyday.

As most of you are now aware, we have changed our introductory process with new clients by starting with Personal Training 1st before graduating them into group classes. While personal training does help improve quality by ensuring people aren’t Cleaning or Snatching for the 2nd time in their lives in their first group class…

Let’s be honest…

We teach our clients a boatload of movements! And even after 20 sessions, many people are still […] Read more

CPM Lingo; Part 1 (Terms and Phrases)

What is that??
AMRAP, EMOTM, STO, Pistol, RX, Chipper…

What did you say??
Double Bang? Spousing? Cherry Picker? the Fist? FNL?

Part of the power of our community is the terminology, acronyms, nicknames and overall lingo we use at the gym(s). It’s cool to have our own language, inside jokes and different ways of communicating with each other inside the walls of the “box”:)

However for a new person (#rookies) it can be imitating, confusing, isolate them or even demotivating:-O

Consider the list below the cliff notes to understanding the lingo we use and why we use it. Enjoy!

Keeping ‘it’ Consistent…

Keeping ‘it’ Consistent…

We are right smack in the middle of our CPM Wired to Eat Challenge. And like all challenges do it gets me thinking about the psychology of success and winning.

It’s so funny how our human brain is wired to resist change or challenges…
-We are creatures of habit. The real challenge is getting out of our comfort zone.
-If left up to us we would choose the path of least resistance.
-We all have great intentions. But being intentional is the tough part.
-Paralysis by Analysis. We OVERTHINK everything!

As the group finds their new rhythm with the challenge in full swing I’ve noticed what […] Read more

Barrier Bashing…

Barrier Bashing…

“We don’t lack for knowing, we lack for doing.”

I’m reading an EXCELLENT book (well actually it’s my 3rd time reading it) Up, Down, Sideways; by Mark Sanborn. It is about leadership, success, and personal development.

He raises the point, “If I consistently did all the things I said I was going to do, I’d probably be retired on a yacht right now”. And then poses the question, “What keeps us from doing what we know that needs to be done?” Answer = Barriers!

Barriers are obstacles and impediments that consistently keep us from acting on what we know. When faced with a barrier he describes 7 […] Read more

#lightBulbMoment… Simple not Easy

#lightBulbMoment… Simple not Easy

I finally realized the definition of “Simple but not Easy”.

It’s very simple when you accept how difficult it is… WOW!

What that means to me; So many people downplay beliefs/goals/dreams in their lives. They underachieve because of Fear/Entitlement/Perfectionism. And when we realize (and accept) humility in our lives it changes EVERYTHING! My Life can be really simple when… Love God, Yourself, Family+Friends, and your Life. People by nature, are flawed and sinners, which is what makes life ‘not easy‘. We have to rise above the noise… Stay focused… Stay committed… It takes a ton of work (especially upfront)… But when we do; […] Read more

Lesson from my trip to NYC…

Lesson from my trip to NYC…

New York City is crazy! The TALL buildings, LOUD noises (and people) the AMOUNT of places to see and food to enjoy is darn near infinite when you only have a few days.

It took my a day or two to get settled… And when I didn’t know what to do or where to go, NYC felt overwhelming, confusing and made me feel apathetic. I decided to do something so simple that ended up being a game-changer. I went to the information dude at the hotel (i.e. NYC Coach). After speaking with my ‘NYC Coach’ he gave me options I […] Read more

How to Establish a Rhythm with Your Health

How to Establish a Rhythm with Your Health

There is a rhythm to everything in life (faith, family, health, etc…). Understanding that rhythm and working to ensure the proper cadence is critical to growing interpersonally and professionally.

Life is full of up’s, down’s, twists and turns. It is hard to get on track. Easy to get off track. Staying consistent can be the defining characteristic in someone’s success with health, FITness and/or any major aspect of life.

I like to use the imagery of treating my body (what I eat and how I workout) like my business. Planning, tracking and executing is vital to the growth of business and it needs […] Read more
