Change Your Word(s) = Failure

Today is another episode of “Change Your Word(s) Series…

The way we think and speak are vital to how we feel and perform. Words are very very powerful. They can be used to your advantage or they can hold you back and stress you out!

We all have emotional attachments to words. Some people view a certain word different than others. Sometimes when I am in a conversion with someone and I hear them say a certain word, I ask them to define what they mean by it. Not because I don’t know what it means, but because I want to know what they mean by it or how they ‘feel’ about it.

Failure is a very ugly word and feeling in the Health and FITness world. The “F” word can evoke feelings of guilt, humiliation, depression, anger, jealously, etc…

According to good ole’ Webster’s dictionary “Failure” has 4 definitions…
1. Omission of occurrence or performance
2. Lack of success =  failing in business:  bankruptcy He was trying to rescue the company from failure.
3. A Falling Short = a crop failure
4. One that has failed . He felt like a failure when he wasn’t accepted into law school.

Perfectionism is the Real Problem

If we perceive failure in the context of perfectionism then we will always lose. All of the Webster’s definitions above would hold true in that case. The thing we “fail” to understand is being perfect is false. We are designed to be imperfect. No matter who we are we can not achieve perfection. We live in an imperfect world. We look at today’s ultra successful (celebrities, athletes, business tycoons, models, etc..) and all we see is the finished product (perfect and successful). We rarely see the reality to their lives which is filled with many more setbacks then the average everyday person.

True Success is LOTS of “Failure”

When you read that at first it seems wrong but when you really think about it; it is so right! The BIGGEST difference between the successful and the non-successful is actually more failure. The winners in life have failed more than the losers…


Because when you ‘fail’ and LEARN from your setbacks then you have the opportunity to win more! When you view a failure as an opportunity to LEARN then you can win more.


We can learn more from our failures then our successes. When you make a mistake. Have a setback. Miss a Muscle Up. There is something in that moment to learn about yourself, your past, your mindset.

Capture it –> Reflect on it –> And use it for future growth.

Continue to fail like that and the sky is the limit for your potential and your life.
