Come and Play!

Come and Play!

#yogarecess

I love going to yoga conferences. I love being surrounded by yogis from all walks of life and backgrounds. I had the opportunity to attend the Minneapolis Yoga Conference this past weekend and it was so much fun. The variety of classes and teachers is so invigorating to me. It kicks me out of my rut and exposes me to new ideas and flows and styles. I find myself making mental notes during the classes to bring back inspiring flows or thoughts to my classes. Nothing recharges my teaching batteries like getting to be the student myself.

I had the opportunity to take session with the amazing Dianne Bondy.  She is on the forefront of the yoga for all movement. She works to make yoga accessible to all people and she very much embodies the Have a Body + Do Yoga = You have a yoga body.  Something that can be easily forgotten if you scroll too much through Instagram or Pinterest.  The class I took was on customizing your yoga practice. She was a wealth of knowledge on how to make common poses accessible for all body types, whether you have “luxury luggage” in the back or a little extra something up front, yoga can work for you. I love coming away from a session with more tools in my teacher toolbelt.  I now feel confident that I could help any student that walks into my class find a way to practice that makes them feel good and successful. I never want anyone to feel singled out because they may not look like a “typical” yogi.

While I loved working on making poses accessible my big takeaway from the class was an off-hand comment she made about how she structures her class, and that she makes time to let people PLAY!  So often we get so concerned about doing the pose properly that we lose sight of having fun, of falling down, picking ourselves up and trying again. We need to leave time to try new things, get out of our comfort zones and celebrate trying something new!

So playing is exactly what we are going to do!  Join me every Monday in April at CPMFITness 2.0 for Yoga Recess!  I will be taking over the 5:30 p.m. yoga each week and we are going to have some yoga recess.  We will start with a flow to get us all warmed up and ready and then have some dedicated time to explore and try some new poses.  Each week we will focus on one pose so come and surprise yourself!

Take a chance, be brave and let’s have some have some fun!!
