Farewell to a Great Friend, Athlete and Coach… BK!

Farewell to a Great Friend, Athlete and Coach… BK!

Parting is such sweet sorrow.

This is the final week you will see BK (aka Brent Katsner) around the gym on the regular. For those of you fortunate enough to know him or be around him you will understand the impact of losing him as a fellow athlete and coach.

As sad as we are to see him go as he and his wife, Amy, move west to the Hills; we are excited for him as he embarks on his next great adventure. Below is BK final thoughts as a CPM coach. Enjoy and post to the comments something great you will remember from BK!

We will miss you good buddy you are always welcome back!!

*****************************************************

Just under 3 years ago I attended my first work out at CPM. A lot of things have changed at the gym in the past 3 years. Classes aren’t an hour long anymore, there are 2 locations now, there are more than just a few coaches and my fitness is on a completely different level from where I started.

One thing hasn’t changed at CPM over the 3 years though and that’s the fact that CPM is much more than just a gym. I’ve been a member at several other gyms in Sioux Falls over the 12 years I’ve lived here. Yet I’ve never gone to a gym with people that genuinely care about you as a person as much as they care about your fitness.

Lets be honest, the workouts are grueling most of the time. They aren’t fun in the moment. But when you’re gym bud is in the grind with you it’s a lot easier to press on and keep going no matter what weight or reps lie ahead of you. I can recall many workouts that my brain and body were telling me to just give up. Seemingly at the right moment though, another member or coach would holler out, “come on BK!” and somehow I’d find just what I needed to keep going.  That’s something you don’t find at other gyms.

CPM has become much more than just a gym to me. It’s been a place where I’ve made great friendships that I know will last far beyond our time here in Sioux Falls. It’s allowed me to grow and develop as a leader as I transitioned from attendee to coach. It’s empowered me to encourage and empower others as they grow and develop their lifts and fitness abilities. It’s helped restore my self-confidence in my physical appearance from what I liked to call my fluffier self to a bit more defined tone. It has shown me that nothing is impossible if I put my mind to it. Such as my first handstand push-up, rope climb, hitting my latest squat clean PR or putting down that 2nd cookie.

CPM is far more than just a gym. If you’re reading this and you are a member you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you’re amember and don’t get this then I encourage you to actively engage in the great community at CPM. If you’re reading this and don’t attend then I’d encourage you to check it out. The benefits reach far beyond the physical.

My hope is that over the 3 years I’ve been at CPM that I have left half the impression on the people and coaches as they have on me.
