FUNdamentals at CPMFITness…

Fundamentals are the key to success in any sport. From my basketball days, the athlete that could dribble (and shoot) we both hands had an advantage. The player that had better footwork could beat the player that was quicker. If you did a better job at consistently boxing out when a shot went up you could earn more minutes then the other guys who could jump higher.

Nothing fancy. Below are the hard core fundamentals to achieve a lifetime of FITness with us at CPMFITness.

1. Show Up

This is the foundation (nuts and bolts, meat and (sweet) potato’s, the staple) of our program. For some reason when we are consistent with our attendance we have a chance for everything to fall into place. We feel better. We progress. We get get what we pay for. Sometimes this step can be the most difficult. Life has a way of throwing us on up’s, down’s, distractions are everywhere. Our jobs will  get busy. Your family will come into town. My advise when things become overwhelming and you feel there are not enough minutes in the day, stop for a minute, really be honest with yourself. And remember why you committed to CPM in the 1st place. When you remember and re-understand why you did, you will magically begin to create time and ‘show up’. Why? Because commitment will teach you how to create time.

2. Journal

I often ask the question in our ‘quarterly check in’s’, “Do you journal your workouts/food?” Some do, many do not. For those that do not, realize that when you do record your workouts, results and thoughts you will automatically get better results. You don’t have to workout more. You don’t even have to workout harder. Simply by journaling you become more aware of where you are presently and you will in turn begin to improve simply by knowing.

3. Nutrition

Believe it or not this is not the most important step in achieving results. But you will get the most bang for your buck when you do improve how you eat. You really can’t out workout a bad diet. Your body will look better, feel better, you will avoid soreness and injury and prevent a lot of unfavorable health issues a lot of our parents have. Bottom line, you need to eat better, you want to eat better and you deserve to eat better. Luckily we have a pretty sweet nutrition check in that will help:)

4. Quarterly Check In’s

It’s easy to get motivated. The challenge is staying that way. When we desire to achieve something we currently don’t have we must (literally) turn into a different person. Most people can be this different person for a few hours, days and weeks but when your old self (habits, behaviors and thoughts) begin to creep back into our lives that is where it can be tough to continue with our goals. One of the best ways to stay on track and continue to push past old thoughts, behaviors and roadblocks is to work with a coach (i.e. Quarterly Review’s). We (coaches) help with an objective perspective and keep you accountable.

5. Train Your Brain

Education is a very powerful tool for long lasting success ala Making this a Lifestyle. Just as working out and eating healthy will change your body and health. Education is training for the brain and emotions. The more we ‘Train the Brain’ and raise the level of our education the better apt we are to improving the success rate of our results.
