How to Increase Confidence?

How would you define ‘Confidence’? What comes to your mind?

If you were to google ‘Confidence’ this is what you would find…

A. The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
B. The state of feeling certain about the truth of something.
C. A feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.

I like to define ‘Confidence’ as an internal knowing and the ammunition to conquer the world.

Life is pretty simple. Definitely not easy, but simple. The people with the most confidence will always WIN in life.

I know as a coach when we can build someone’s confidence in themselves they WILL achieve their goals and the desired results they wish with their body, mind and spirit.

So how do we create, or better yet, INCREASE confidence?

It is a similar approach to how we nourish our body. We have to nourish our mind and hearts. I have broken it down into 4 categories; Borrow it, Feed it, Protect it, and Give it.

I wrote a post called, THE 200% RULE, last year in July that pretty much sums this up. One of the great things about human begins is we can give it when we have it and take it when we need it. When you are down, confused, frustrated or trying to figure out what next step is; you should be ready to borrow some confidence from that coach/role model you have in your life. It will shed the very light you need to get you where you need to go.

Again, your brain and your heart (emotions) work a similar way our bodies do. The more (and better) you train them, the more and better results you will achieve. The difference is, as complex as the body can be it can be more complex to deal with your mind.

When we have between 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day, this means between 35 and 48 thoughts per minute per person. The steady flow of thinking is a thick filter between our thoughts and feelings, our head and heart.

That can feel overwhelming, so let’s break it down. I see 4 big filters in your mind to focus on; What you Read. What you Listen too. What you Watch. Who you Hang Around. Start adjusting the positivity and content to those filters and all of your thoughts we begin to move in the right direction.

Just as important as Feeding your mind is Protecting it. We can only have one conscious thought at a time. It can be constructive and serve us or destructive and take away. Regarding the 4 filters above, take the time to minimize if not eliminate negative reading, TV/internet, friends, co-workers in your life.

“The more you give, the more you get“. The old cliche line is really the secret to unlocking a lot of people’s success. Here is another way to look at it…

When you lack it –> Give it –> And you will GET it back.

The easiest and least effect way to increase confidence is to look for encouragement and validation from others. It’s obvious, good but honestly not that effective. Why? Because no one has the answer to our own problems. We Do! We just allow our problems to stop us. And when your problems have you convinced to give up or quit on something its time to look outside of you and give it up to someone that also needs help. We will uncover the true answers inside of us by getting out of our own head (literally) and helping others in need. It is a very powerful and empowering process.
