Member Spotlight = Melissa Howes

Next up for our Member Spotlight = Melissa Howes. She is my neighbor, friend and all around awesome person! I have so much fun when we are together at the gym. She embodies so much of what our CPM community is all about! Emily Plucker told me the other day, “When I look at Melissa Howes I see total health”. When you are fortunate to have her in a class with you expect positivity, fun and encouragement!

Let’s get to know Melissa some more…

When did you first start training at CPMFITness?
When did I start CPM? I can’t remember! 2 1/2 years ago?

Tell about your sports/FITness background:
I have been involved in sports and fitness since I was little. I played volleyball, basketball, track and softball in high school and had a very short stint as a high jumper at UNL. I stopped working out for awhile after I had my 2nd child. I met Nicole Osmundson and we started running together. She’s blown by me now by doing triathlons. I’ve been a member of both hospital fitness centers, Tryon gym, and Farrell’s. The best thing about CPM is that everyday is different. I also play tennis!

Take us back to your first CPM workout… What was it? How did it feel?
My first CPM workout was FitChic’s and let me tell you, there were some really FIT CHICKS in that class!

What sort of change in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CPM that were totally unexpected?

One thing I did at CPM that ended up being a blessings was the Whole30. I didn’t exactly enjoy doing it because I really do need wine in my life. And chocolate. BUT, shortly after the Whole30 I found out that I had celiacs so that was a good way to prepare for giving up that part of my diet. The Whole30 also showed my that denying myself things was very difficult and I needed to practice that more often!

Please share with us any favorite CPM moments:
My favorite CPM moments are really just getting to know a bunch of people that I would never have gotten the opportunity to get to know! I love Annie and Chris! They truly care about me and my goals and will do everything in their power to help me accomplish them!

Any advice for people just getting started?
My advice to people just starting is to stick with it. Learn the moves correctly and don’t worry about how you compare to the other members. Everyone is very encouraging and honestly don’t care what your time is so just get the best workout you can for YOU!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CPM?
Outside of CPM I like to play tennis, read, hang out with my 3 dogs, cook, and take care of my family. I’m married and have 4 kids ranging from 12-23 years old!
