Last week I filled you in on our participation in the Granite Games online team qualifier. I was feeling pretty good after our first round of workouts. I didn’t come up with great scores but they were scores I could live with. We were really excited to see the next 3 workouts. The second we saw them, messages started flying between the 6 of us. At one point, Lisa had to give us a pep talk because we were so overwhelmed by the difficulty of these workouts. But here’s the deal, we are competing against pros and we need to remember that. This kind of stuff can make you feel really bad about yourself and lose confidence. I have to constantly remind myself that I’m good enough and I’m only trying to be the best I can without losing focus on my main priority… my family. Curious about these workouts?

Here’s what we got:

Workout #4

12 Minute AMRAP
Athlete 1 (15 Deadlift, 12 Hang Clean, 9 Push Jerk : 135/95 pounds)
Athlete 2 (12 Deadlift, 9 Hang Clean, 6 Push Jerk : 155/105 pounds)
Athlete 3 (9 Deadlift, 6 Hang Clean, 3 Push Jerk : 185/125 pounds)

I’m instantly excited about this one. Court, Lisa and I did this one together and boy was I ever disappointed with my performance. We gave Court the 125 pounds, I took 105 and Lisa took 95. Doing 105 is like doing DT which I’ve done REALLY well at before. After a week of intense CPM and Granite Games workouts plus a workout earlier that day, I was wiped out. I’m not exercising smart at this point and I’m really disappointed in myself :-(

18 Minute AMRAP
50 double unders
30 thrusters (95/65lbs)
5 ring muscle ups
60 double unders
25 thrusters (115/80lbs)
7 ring muscle ups
… the ladder continues…

Alright Granite Games, now I’m really frustrated! I was pretty sure they said only one athlete on the team of 3 had to be able to do muscle-ups. So we weren’t expecting them in a qualifier WOD. If they would have been bar muscle-ups, we would have been set! This forced me to get the long straps hung at the mall so we can have lower rings. I guess I should view this as the push I needed to get this done. It’s also the push we need to spend more time on the rings! Needless to say, this was a quick workout for me. 50 doubles, 30 thrusters AND DONE!

AMRAP 13 Minutes
30 snatches (75/55lbs)
15 handstand push-ups
30 toes to bar
15 handstand push-ups

These guys are relentless! We have five days to complete these 3 workouts and I’m headed to the lake for the weekend. Dang! I did this workout Monday morning with a sore shoulder from something I had done last week. One set of handstand push-ups all the way to the ground was enough. I completed the 30 toes to bar and stopped. It’s not worth the pain or the injury.

The Granite Games were a great experience all around but it definitely makes me realize what is most important to me…. general fitness, health and feeling good. It’s just like eating… do everything in moderation. Workouts, eating, drinking… moderation is key!
