The Motivational Myth

I’m reading an EXCELLENT book right now called, “The 5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins.

I study motivation, success and the psychology behind it all just as much or more as I do with the body and FITness. Ready to hear the BIGGEST myth in motivation, pop culture, psychology and self improvement?

There is a myth that you HAVE to be Motivated to Act.

 

Truth be told… You don’t!

Do I love working out? Sure. Are there moments, days or weeks when I don’t want too? YEP!
Do I like to eat healthy? Not all the time. 
When the alarm goes off at 5am do I want to roll over and stay in my nice warm bed? Heck yes!
Is it hard to meet new people at a networking event? It can be.

The real truth is Motivation follows Action. You know how I know this? Remember that saying,

I don’t know when America fell into the trap of feeling like they need to get motivated to act on something.

THE SOLUTION IS 5 SECONDS AWAY… (in a nutshell)

Everybody has the power and natural biological instincts to change their life for the better right now! Most everyone stops themselves when we ‘think’ about it. Here is your homework… When you come up against something you know is good for you…

-Wake up to an early alarm
-Drive to the gym
-Ordering at a restaurant
-Speak up in a meeting at work
-Say I love you to a family member or your spouse

And you feel a pull back inside or you or resistance to act. Countdown from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… And then act! We have a 5 second internal gap to act on our instincts. By counting down we distract ourselves from over thinking it and focus in on acting on it. And that countdown pushes our front cortex in our brain to act and we do it! And you know what? It works! And it is a game-changer!
