The new year is here and the number one New Year’s resolution is to lose weight and get in shape. So why is it by day 15 most people’s resolutions are being stocked away until 2015?

#1 Get involved in a group activity – Group classes are great ways to have fun while working out and get to see you friends and help them keep you accountable in the process. With the small group classes you will get the best of both worlds; the personal training feel with the group supporting you and cheering you on. Accountability by others is the key to having long-term success.

#2 HIgh Intensity movements with Strength Training: This combination is one of the best fat burning exercises you can do. The high intensity will also get your heart rate up. Getting our heart rate to a higher level moves oxygen and blood into our muscles more efficiently, and we increase the efficiency of the muscles. The result is that, over time, we can move more with less effort and feel good doing it!

#3 Finding yoga – Yoga is great for a plethora of reasons, but a big reason that I would suggest making it a habit in your workout routine is it helps with flexibility and joint tightness. By incorporating yoga just one to two times a week you can really see amazing benefits in your overall workout routine. It will also help you with injury prevention, when your quality of movement is better your injury risk goes down as well.

#4 Find a quality trainer or instructor – You need to find a trainer or instructor who you mesh with and will keep you motivated to keep coming and has your safety and best interest as a #1 priority. When you get along with your instructor and you feel safe under their coaching you will trust them. When you trust your trainer you can really get the results you are looking for and continue to workout and feel great for years to come!
