What’s Fun Got to Do With It

We have all read about or experienced the benefits of eating well, exercising regularly and getting the right amount of sleep but what about the “FUN” factor?

I believe and so does science that having fun is a huge part of staying healthy.

So what’s the hesitation? Why don’t people make it a priority?

  1. Guilt
  2. Perceived Silliness
  3. Lack of Time

Our society suffers from chronic adult-it-is:-) We get so caught up in “life” that we forget to play once in awhile. We think that fun means participating in structured activities, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Play can be spontaneous without the extrinsic goals.

• Having more fun improves relationships – both at work and in life
• Fun makes us smarter
• Fun reduces stress
• Fun makes us more energetic and youthful
• Fun helps us sleep more soundly

So how does one accomplish this everyday?

Learn Something New: Maybe it’s a new language or a musical instrument or becoming an expert in a subject that interests you (gardening, yoga, nutrition). This is about re-connecting with your passion. Not about being a perfectionist or trying to impress someone.

Build Relationships: One of my love languages is quality time. I love spending time with my family and friends. Surround yourself with good people. Our mind and bodies mimic what we see and feel. Good relationships open the door to fun opportunities.

Exercise: You all knew this one was coming☺ Here’s the deal, I don’t love working out but I do love how I feel afterwards. This does not mean you always have to get to the gym to do it. Find something you enjoy to do instead of treating exercise like a bad chore. By doing so, you will never want to stop.

Get Your Groove on: Dancing has a way of taking your cares away. It does not matter if it’s the Electric Slide, the famous Shoot or your own crazy moves. Modern living often leaves us feeling disconnected from our bodies because we spend so much time sitting and hooked to technology. Dancing makes you feel good and alive!
