Introduce yourself and how long you have been with us?
I am a former runner and exercise avoider, who has learned to love exercise and weights and challenge my ideas of not being athletic. I have found my secret recipe to go from not so fit to fitter. I have been with CPM since Jan of 2014.
What is your favorite part about coaching with us?
I love seeing people succeed when they thought they couldn’t. We so often hold tight to the stories we have about ourselves and so we automatically avoid or don’t try something new because we don’t think we can do it or don’t want to look silly trying. I enjoy encouraging people and being a cheerleader for them to push past their comfort zone and try something new.
What is the biggest benefit you get from CPM outside of the gym?
My confidence. Coaching, and challenging myself physically have made a huge difference in how I carry myself in social and business situations. I am much more comfortable talking to others about my story and about what I do and I think it has made me much more empathetic and understanding of the different levels people are at. There isn’t a good or bad level, we all have to start somewhere, and I enjoy encouraging people to try because more often than not they will surprise themselves at what they can do.
What is one unexpected thing about the gym that you really enjoy?
The satisfaction of dropping a really heavy barbell. The amazing friendships I have made.
How would you describe your coaching style? What is your superpower as a Coach?
I am definitely not a yeller. I am much more likely to pull someone aside and provide some cues or help. My superpower, I have been told I have a calming vibe so when you need to find that zen in your workout, you better be in my class!
What is your favorite thing you do with your fitness outside of the gym?
I love hiking or really any kind of activity where I can get outside and find some peace in nature. That is very restoring to me.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about starting up?
Get out of your head, get out of your own way and try. We have an amazing team of coaches who are here to help you succeed not look silly or fail. Now is the time to get fit so you can do all the activities you really enjoy. Stop sitting on the sidelines and join us!
What advice would you give to a new member (maybe something you wish you were told when you were starting out)?
Ask questions. Get to know your coaches and commit (if possible) to a consistent class time. This way you start to see some familiar faces, start to create your support system and make your own gym family. At the end of the day it’s these accountability partners that will keep you coming back and you will ultimately start to see the results you want.
