One of the keys to maintaining happiness is progress. I have noticed that when I stop growing, I start to feel stagnant. I am just not as satisfied and happy.

There are many things that can contribute to ones happiness. For me sometimes happiness comes from a home improvement project or organizing the cupboards and clearing the clutter. Sometimes happiness comes lifting heavy stuff, making minor adjustments to my form to hit my next PR. Sometimes happiness comes from being coached and learning something new about myself.

If you are not growing, you are wilting away. If you are not actively expanding your mind in some way, the joy of living will tend to be unclear. You don’t have to be whatever it is you want to be right now, but as long as you are making steps towards a better person you were yesterday, you will start to feel like you have a purpose.

One reason we stop making goals for ourselves and stop progressing in life is the belief that we should accept who we are and stop believing we can be better. While I think self-acceptance is imperative, it should be used as the basis for growth. When we are not growing, learning and seeking improvements in our lives, we begin to justify mediocrity.

Progress creates happiness. In projects, personal growth, relationships, in health, in home improvement projects, in everything I can think of. If you are growing, and giving, you will be happy. If you set a goal, and move towards it, step by baby step, it is in that movement, that progress, that you will find true happiness.
